A strong beer which was usually kept in the wood for long periods. Large amounts of malt produced a sweetish beer at the beginning, but prolonged maturation developed a drier, more complex ale.
Brewed December 2010, and properly aged as an old ale should be, this ruby strong ale has a complex malt character and nutty Fuggles hops. Hints of marmalade and caramel are topped by sherry notes.
A very limited edition. We are planning to brew it again for next winter.

Cask at Durham Brewery 30th Year Anniversary Beer Festival. Reddish amber brown colour, off-white foam head and aroma of malt, fruit, chocolate hint. Taste is sweetish, malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, chocolate hint, boozy, woody, with tangy fruity bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, boozy bitter finish. Nicely drinkable

Bottle at home in Hackney - no idea where I got it, maybe the Kernel rotbox. BBE 2016, brewed in 2010, so I reckon this was bottled somewhere around 2011-2014. Pours clear, deep ruby with an impressively sturdy, frothy khaki head. Medium to big sweet, some nice stewed semi-dark fruits, berries, figs, dates, light earthy-leafy bitterness, toffee, toasted bread. Medium to full bodied, lightly oily, with fine, massaging carbonation. Somewhat warming and sticky in the finish, more toffee, dates, leafy hops, alcohol, toasted grains, nips of oxidation. It's a damn good brew that has aged well.

Bottled. Brewed december 2011. Reddish amber color. Toffee and red berries in the almost vinous aroma. Malty sweet, vinous slightly alcoholic flavor with red berries, toffee and butter. Sweet and sticky, but well matured and complex brew.

Bottle @ Rasmus. Pours amber with a creamy offwhite head. Aroma of malt, wood, light oxidation, dark fruit. Flavor is malt, caramel, dark fruit, wood, cherries, alcohol. Medium body, soft carbonation, light warming alcoholic finish. 240414

Bottle. Dark amber/brown with small beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, nut and a little oxydized. Flavour is malt, caramel, toasted, nut, sweet, wood, little oxydized, oak, marmelade and a llittle bitter.

Bottle @ Aarhus tasting. Hazy orange with a tiny off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark malts, dried fruit and a little oxidized. Flavor is very sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish with a little warming alcohol. Oily. 240414

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are sweet fruits, caramel, candy sugar, malt and hops. Quite sweet.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig, leicht schokoladig, holzig, bitter. Geschmack röstmalzig, leicht getreidig, fruchtig, alkoholisch.
