A Pittsburgh-style Ale!
Dave Warwick and Tim Matthews became friends in Pittsburgh, PA in 2006 when they were both assistants at crosstown brewpubs. Dave, now brewmaster at Three Notch’d, and Tim, now Head of Operations at Oskar Blues, created this black ale hopped with First Gold, U.S. Goldings, and East Kent Goldings as a nod to the beloved city where their friendship and brewing careers began.

Sample at Collaboration Fest on 03/21/2015. The beer pours a dark brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, hops and pine. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, roast malt and coffee. The finish is roasty up front with a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

16oz can pours a murky, black with some lacing, creamy, slightly off white head. Nose has a mild meatiness to it, some malt, toast, mild smoke, a little pine tar, some dark orange. Flavor follows, some meatiness, some mushroom, some molasses, toast, coffee bean, pine, blood orange, soap. Full bodied, but mostly dry and drinkable.

Pounder: Charred oak nose, not strong. Cola brown, thick tan head, nice lacing. Licorice and charred oak. Lemon zest finish, without distinct transitions. Soft carbonation, full body. I’m not a fan of the Goldings, but this was nicely executed.
