Each Avalonia starts with a blend of barrel-aged farmhouse ales fermented with our house mixed culture - typically, those blends are prepared with a particular whole fruit refermentation in mind. Avalonia: Raspberry has long been one of our favorite, single-fruit expressions and despite a nearly four year hiatus, this batch proves that’s still the case. We’re struck not just by the depth and intensity of fruit character but the balance - both pulp and seed are there in the same way you’d experience when eating a ripe raspberry. Another example of the virtues of whole fruit refermentation.

2024 draught at the brewery, 8/15/24. Chill haze, raspberry. Small, pink-tinged head. Nose is chalky, beautiful, mellow but bright raspberry and soft mixed culture. Juicy, lightly tart, seedy and raw, perfectly juicy, fruity and mellowed. Soft and malty, dry, with chewy wheat. What a series...really loadin the funk in as it warms...

Bottle thanks to Michael. Pours a cloudy ruby with small pinkish white head that lasts. The aroma is strong raspberry, cherry, oak. Slick body, cherry, raspberry, light funk, nice tartness, very nice.
