pours black . Smell is smoked, with bacon aspects . Taste is bitter, smoked in the back , rather than upfront . OK , as far as smokebeers go .

Tap at the Heritage Beer Festival’10, labeled just "Smoked Beer." Pour is a clear medium brown color with a thin, but lasting head. The beer is all smoke, a bit too oily and slick on the mouthfeel for me though. I would like it more rounded and thicker. But the sweet, BBQ aspect is all over the place and I like it.

Sampled on tap at the 2010 Indiana Winterfest. Poured dark brown with a brown head. Aroma had strong roasted malt flavor with an undertone of smokiness. Flavor was more smokey and balanced a bit with the roasted malts.

Sample at the brewpub. This homage to the Alaskan benchmark pours a mostly clear dark brown color with some ruby around the edges. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. The aroma is smoky with touches of roasted malt and chocolate. Medium body with a smoked character that never becomes overbearing, as seems to be an issue with some beers of the style. Flavors of malt, chocolate and nuts are present. The finish is smoky with roasted malt lingering. Pretty good overall.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice dark chocolate with some coffee in there. Flavor is again roasted malts with a toffee and a slight smoke. Not as meaty or smoky as the O’Fallon product but it is quite drinkable.
