Jet black, nice lasting brown head. Nose of molasses and alcohol. Thick very sweet palate of molasses,malt and licorice with harsh alcohol heat Not particularly pleasant

Pours very dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of dark fruits, molasses toasted malts with hints of citrus. Very sweet dark fruit and molasses flavors with some lightly roasted malts and citrus. Quite boozy ( well, it is 16% ABV). Full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel.

Can’t remember how I get this one. Enjoyed in a wine glass at 50F
A - Poured a pitch black almost oily appearance with a 2 finger head.
S - Tons of roasted malts, coffee and some licorice.
T - WOw booze-bomb! it burns to drink it. Tons of chocolate, coffee and more spices like licorice. Uber sweet start to finish. Lots of smokiness
M - Heavy body, medium carb..so boozy
O - This beer is pretty interesting. Very complex but oh boy is it boozy and smoky. needs some time in the bottle for sure.

Sampled on draft at D’s Monroeville this beer poured a black color with a medium sized creamy brown head that faded and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty raisin and molasses. The flavor was malty, pretty sweet and fairly boozy with notes of rum, cherry, tobacco, raisin and a ton of molasses. Long finish of molasses, raisin, cherry and rum. Fairly full bodied. Boozy but not as much as you would expect from a 16% beer. Interesting.

Bottle from holiday 8 pack they put out. Pours dark motor oil color and thickness. Nose of booze ad dark fruits. Tastes of figs, plums, cherries, molasses, malt, earth, very boozy. A touch too sweet and sticky.

A dark reddish brown ale with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, beautiful dark fruits, molasses, chocolate, woody notes and licorice. Wow! In mouth, a smooth licorice laden vinous malt with plums, bitter herbs, ricolla, tons of alcohol, yet balanced. On tap at Datz, Dec. 9 2012.

22oz bomber pours with a really dark brown body that supports an impressive lasting half inch mocha colored head of foam. The aroma is boozy, chocolate, faint toffee and then date to fig esteriness as well as some black strap molasses and a mild hodge podge of earthy-piny-sugary citrus hops. The taste is slick and sweet to start with. I get dark roasted malts, spicy black strap molasses, chocolate and oven burnt brownies to go along with some sweet dates, prunes and figs. To midway and on to the finish modestly bitter hops are joined by some booziness that helps out the other notes to close out the sipping experience. 16%, a real sipper. Nice stuff where the hops are more noticeable than prior editions.

Prune, cashew, walnut, charred oak, baker’s chocolate nose. Mahogany, thick slow building beige head. Full body, hot but completely understandable for 16% ABV. Flavor is licorice, prune, dark chocolate horehound, tobacco . There are elements of both an imperial stout and a barleywine, but that appears to speak of disfunction. This beer is all over the place. I normally like complexity, but this just seems like a lot of stuff thrown together with little purpose. Good , but really taxing on the palate.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a brown head. Toffee and light alcohol aroma. Toffee and alcohol flavor with light cocoa. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and burnt sugar linger with alcohol and light roast.

It’s full bodied, the mouthfeel is round, with the malt of a barley wine, roasted malts, strong flavor of dark chocolate too; in the final there is some liquorice, salt, and quite strong alcohol feeling (but somehow acceptable knowing the real ABV); strong bitterness; salty dark chocolate in the final too.
Excessive, inelegant.
