Amazing porter. Rum gives this a lovely twist but this is still in many ways a classic porter, with lots of chocolate malt, licorice, molasses, some rum. Lovely.

0,33 l can from Craft Beer Kontor, Hannover. BLACK in the glass with a more than one finger beige head. Smells intensive roasty malty with fruity barrel wood. Taste is very smooth, intensive roasted malt, barrel wood fruity. Some sticky sweetness. No carbonation. Great!

Eher trockener malziger Beginn, die Aromen der Fasslagerung sind im Vordergrund. Die Malznoten sind schokoladig, geringe Karbonisierung, weich herb. Intensiv, etwas dumpfer Abgang. 10/9/9/10/9/10

Kees’ export porter aged on rum barrels, fit in his ongoing barrel project series. Can at Kantien, Ghent. Thick and mousy, creamy, mocha-brownish head leaving light lacing on a jet black beer with only a very thin mahogany edge. Aroma of fondant chocolate bars, black coffee and a lot of it, roasted chicory, cigar tobacco, wet wood, mocha ice cream, touch vanilla, bayleaf, brown rum indeed but not too overpowering, pecan nuts, hints of nutmeg, green coffee beans, treacle, soy sauce, fig jam, raisin bread, thyme and a touch of beef stock cube. Sweet onset with an umami edge, very light and ‘dim’ sourish undertone, medium carb, very full, oily, even somewhat syrupy mouthfeel; old raisin- and dried fig-like fruity hints linger over a bitter-chocolatey, toffeeish and burnt toast-like malt bittersweetness with light umami accents of black olive and teriyaki at the edges; lots of black chocolate and coffee bitterness filling the back of the mouth with a persisting roasted bitterness piercing through the warming rum effect, boozy but nowhere too wry or hot and blending well with light woodiness, spicy bayleaf-, thyme- and clove-like hints, spicy hop bitterness and, above all, ongoing oily malt bittersweetness, with a slight ‘powderiness’ in the very end. Very full, rich and not overly boozy like all these modern barrel aged porters and stouts so often are, the rum barrel has been used as an extra ingredient here and is perfectly integrated into the whole, actually making the basic beer – already a top quality beer – better. This is how barrel ageing should be done.

Pitch black pour with a thin, long-lasting, dark tan lacing. Notes of smoke, roasted malts, roasted coffee, rum spices, espresso foam, wood, and a bitter hoppiness to compliment the flavour. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall very nice balance.
