9th November 2008. Wheatwine (50% wheat malt). Low carbonation. Deep amber beer, slightly hazy. Dry and silky palate. Sour wheaty malt with a little brandy in the very dry finish. Shows it hand with the abv. Not overly complex but alright!

Tap @ brewery. Dark orange colour, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts, orange. Flavour of caramel malts, bready malts, oranges, vanilla. Slightly sweet finish.

Bottle at Monk’s Café, Wallingatan
Amber color with red hue; medium head. Aroma of sweet caramel, vanilla, Bourbon, alcohol. Medium body strength, strong caramel flavor, vanilla, but not well combined; a bit too bitter, and, mostly, a rather unpleasant sweet liquorice finish. Not convincing.

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. Clear brownish amber, no head. Aroma of wheat bread with a touch of grapefruit. Malty and chewy, full bodied yet pleasantly dry. Lovely mix of wheat bread and caramel powdered with slight orangehops. Mildly warming finish with slight salty bitterness. An elegant beer with lovely balance.

@Tampa Weekly Gathering-Thanks tampabrew-22oz bottle–pours a thin light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet light/medium malt, roasty, dark fruit. Taste is sweet light/medium malt, roasty, dark fruit. Dry finish, syrupy mouth feel.

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy red- amber color with a small khaki head. The aroma was strong fruity hops, molasses, caramel and apple. The flavor was fruity with sour nut and toasty caramel. The finish was long with sour nutty caramel. The mouthfeel was fairly flat but thick. Something in this one just did not work for me.

Clear amber and copper coloured body with a super light white head - no movement at all. Aroma of sweet pit fruits, malt, alcohol, whiskey and a bit of oak - nice! Full-bodied; Chewy mouthful of malt, vanilla, pine, grass and some oak tucked in with the sweetness of pit fruits and raisins. Aftertaste somewhat mild - a bit of the oak and pungent flavours kick in, but the sweetness definitely shows as well. Overall, a lighter barley wine, not complex, but still showing the traditional characteristics. Decent to try, but not one of my favourites - plus I hate the stupid size of this bottle, stupid for a beer this style. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 04-March-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 14-May-2009, the night the Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs!
