We love our stouts and we love King kelly too! a creamy smooth easy drinking stout with light notes of roast and chocolate throughout, followed by a big piney hop finish.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a snall foamy cream head. Roast malts, biscuits and treacle feature in the aroma, along with hints of floral hops. In the mouth it is fairly sweet, though a tad watery, and the hops are more prominent, being one of the mainstays of flavour along with roast malts. There’s also traces of balsam, cough mixture and herbs resulting in a medicinal finish. This is a bit unusual, but rather nice. [ PS not hoppy enough to be considered a Black IPA]

Cask at the Craven Arms, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, grassy hops. The flavour is moderate to light sweet and bitter, with a smooth, earthy, mineral, roasty, light grassy, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Pheasant Inn & brewhouse, Wellington Shropshire on 1st April 2022. Dark, red hue to the almost black body, cream coloured foam on top. Mild malty, chocolate nose and taste, not too sure where the hoppy bit comes in, pleasant enough but didn't have the hop kick I was expecting by it's description.

On cask at Monty's Bar. Appearance - dark brown to black and fairly opaque. Neat fawn head. Nose - chocolate, light toffee. A touch of resin but not as fruity as expected from the description. Taste - more toffee and chocolate. Palate - creamy and close to medium bodied with a gentle taper and good linger. Overall - nice beer. A fresh stout even if it falls short of a hopped stout.
