Deep black with a tan coloured head. The aroma offers some roast coffee and cocoa nib with a hint of both sherry and whiskey notes.
A rich mellow taste on the palate with coffee and bitter chocolate from the dark roasted malt. The high alcohol content is balanced by the malt and intense sherry barrel flavours.
The rich full body finishes with the slightest hint of dry Oloroso Sherry fruit.
Aging for four months in Oloroso Sherry Casks which has held “The Whistler” range of Single Malt whiskeys for 2+ years has extracted complex vanilla and spice notes to this special edition Imperial Stout.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [300417]
Good design on bottle / label combo. Pitch black, thin tan head dissipates to edge
Aroma of dark meaty malts, hint of alcohol, some dark fruits, getting dab of whisky
Taste of rich dark malts, touch of whisky, soft roasted malts, dab of bitter dark chocollate, getting fruity note as well
Palate - Medium carb, full body, quite sweet, rich texture, alcohol present but OK. Finish of dark malts, warming alcohol
Overall - Great to see more impys brewed in Ireland - this is a good one

Bottle shared at the flat. In Warsaw. An oily brown coloured pour with a light tan head. Aroma is earthy socks, peat whisky, jammy berry. Flavour is composed of semi sweet wood balsa, tannin, oak, boozy, brown apple, sticky brown sugars.. Palate is sweet and sticky. Harsh woody tannin. Pretty enjoyable but some rough edges.

Bottle at the flat in Warsaw. Pours oily black-brown with a frothy, beige head. The aroma holds burnt wood, baking cocoa, chocolate cake, scorched earth, some old wood. Medium to heavy sweet flavour with more rounded chocolate, prominent burnt wood, dried berries, cherry, bitter dark chocolate. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, with more bittersweet chocolate, light ashy bitterness, more dried berries. Very good beer.

Bottle split at XhithÆd towers, Warsaw HQ, 08/04/17. Light black topped with a decent tan swirl. Nose is rich dark fruit rinds, spice, mellow barrel, charr, chocolate. Taste comprises rich malt, spice, black pepper, dark toffee, charr, raisins, dates. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light rising boost in the close. Decent enough BA Impy ... no WOW offered but ticks the style boxes ... a serviceable number for sure !
