Deep black with a tan coloured head. The aroma offers some roast coffee and cocoa nib with a hint of both sherry and whiskey notes.
A rich mellow taste on the palate with coffee and bitter chocolate from the dark roasted malt. The high alcohol content is balanced by the malt and intense sherry barrel flavours.
The rich full body finishes with the slightest hint of dry Oloroso Sherry fruit.
Aging for four months in Oloroso Sherry Casks which has held “The Whistler” range of Single Malt whiskeys for 2+ years has extracted complex vanilla and spice notes to this special edition Imperial Stout.

Black beer, thin head which dissipates quite quickly. Dry, malty aroma with a touch of fruit. Rich flavour of toasty, dry malt, fruit, a bit of woody, booziness from the casks and a little chocolate in there too. Quite straightforward but really tasty and dangerously smooth for the strength.

Pours dark brown from the bottle. A frothy to creamy tan head lingers. Aroma is vanilla, sherry, faint whiskey. Taste is sweet up front, tart and boozy at the finish. Not sure why but the stout/sherry/whiskey combination, while sounding promising, is not really working for me here. There’s a collision of flavors and a boozy rawness that I would prefer to be better disguised. Body is medium, sticky, carbonation is soft. Okayish but below average for the style.

Black, tan head. Aroma has malt, dried fruit, cocoa, wood. Fruity, roasted flavour, light alc warmth and light oxidation, could be the sherry. More whiskey-like alcohol heat and sweet sherry notes towards the finish. Dark chocolate too. Fine.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an opaque pitch black with a small, dense light brown head. Roasty nose, but not exactly aggressive. Solid roasty, malty body. Distinct oakiness and tannins, but not so much Sherry. Not bad at all, but the oak and tannins are a little rough right now, so I believe it's a beer that will gain from some cellaring. 240118

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L's place. Thanks Tom L. Black. Wine, wood, fruitiness, licorice, hops, herbal, alcohol, bitter, quite boozy. Not really my kind of an Imperial Stout. Kinda harsh.
