Het vrijdagmiddaggevoel, vriendschap en vrijheid, gevat in bier. Dat is Vrijstad India Pale Ale, een authentiek, lekker doordrinkbaar bier. De oorsprong van het bier ligt in de Engelse koloniale tijd toen al het bier voor de koloniën nog in Engeland gebrouwen werd. Het verhaal gaat dat het type bier zeer sterk gehopt werd als conservering voor de verscheping naar India. Na lange tijd in de vergetelheid te zijn geraakt is de I.P.A. dankzij de Amerikaanse micro–brouwerijen in de jaren negentig herontdekt en heeft het een heel nieuw elan meegekregen. Er werden vooral nieuwe soorten, zeer aromatische hop gebruikt. Sindsdien is de I.P.A. de koning van de kleinschalige brouw cultuur geworden. Onze I.P.A. is ook voorzien van een ruime hoeveelheid Australische galaxy hop tijdens de koude lagering, die zorgt voor een uitgesproken citrusaroma. Het fruitige karakter wordt versterkt door Amerikaanse ale gist. India Pale Ale is hét bier waarmee de passie om zelf te brouwen ooit begon bij de jongens van Brouwerij Vrijstad Culemborg.

Bottle. Golden color, pours a huge head. Amber color. Herbal, caramelly aroma with orange. Herbal, yeasty hopbitter flavor with orange and grass. Old hops, it seems to me. Has lost Some of it’s bite. Dry finish. Drinkable.

33cl bottle from bierkoning, thanks! A hazy amber beer with a huge good lasting off-white head. Aroma of dry hoppy orange fruits, caramel. Taste of caramelish malt, orange fruits, zest, long bitter finish. High carbonation, weird stuff!

33cl Bottle from Mitra Tiel. Hazy copper colour, thin but dense off-white head. Aroma of some citrus, flowers, nuts, hint of toast, later on some melon. Flavour is medium sweet, nutty, malty, weird fruity, watery, light floral, light bitter finish. Light bodied, watery. Smells alright, tastes weird, not undrinkable though. Doesn’t exceed average homebrewing imho.

Bottle from Mitra Bunnik, BB 11 Nov 2016, large sample. Hazy orange to amber color, huge rocky head. Aroma has butterscotch, caramel, slight citrussy and grassy hop, bit coriander. Soft earthy and grassy bitterness, caramelly sweetness, butterscotch. Not much different, so no need to update the score any further. Bottle thx to Benzai, small sample. Hazy golden to orange color, big rocky slight off-white head. Aroma of grassy hop, bit citrus, some butterscotch, caramel and toffee, not completely clean yeast. Soft bitter in taste, slight caramel sweetness, bit spicy. A bit too much butter(scotch) in it. Ok-ish.

Bottle shared with Caesar and dEnk. Lightly hazy orange golden color, huge foamy white head. Smell and taste malts, dusty, lightly metallic, old hops, a hint of caramel and toffee. Best before date July 22 2015 so probably old. Not very good, or simply too old.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Hazy amber with a big white head. Malty citrus aroma with a hint of pineapple. taste is somewhat sweet with some underlying bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy. Finish is a bit too short, after swallowing it’s almost immediately gone. Overall a nice (session) IPA but it could be more pronounced.
