A collaboration with North Brewing Co.

Challenged to combine two of our most popular beers as part of Cloudwater’s The Mashup project, we decided to combine Jurgen with North’s Triple Fruited Gose after a public vote.

The result is GATTO, a 10% imperial stout brewed with massive additions of raspberry, cherry and sour cherry. Expect molten cacao nibs, chocolate cake, bourbon and Bakewell tarts.

Panda at home, thanks to Fergus, 16/07/22. Black with a decent tan covering that dissipates edgewards. Nose is dark chocolate, mellow roast, red berry fruits, sugars. Taste comprises chocolate dipped cherries, dark malts, light spice, dried fruits, molasses, hint of Turkish Delight, jammy berries. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a spike of alcohol. Not bad if a touch over perfumed and weighing in a touch overly sweet for my liking.

440ml can. Pitch black with a thin reddy-brown head. Aroma of cherries, chocolate, raspberry. Taste is fruity, lots of cherry both sweet and sour, raspberry purée, chocolate, warming alcohol. Full bodied, and smooth. Fruited stouts aren't my thing but this works well, and probably the best mashup in terms of style melds.

440ml can from the brewery taproom. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived frothy reddish tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, big cherry. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a roasty, light smoky, tart cherry, light sweet chocolate, warm alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
