Lattina.

lattina 50 cl, schiuma bianca fine pannosa persistente, colore giallo oro pallido limpido, al naso malto cereali luppoli, in bocca malto cereali leggere note citriche, corpo scarno, watery, carbonazione piatta, oily, dolce con amaro percettibile. Classica lager da battaglia super industriale. c. Carrefour Germignaga 03.05.23

Standard pale lager made for the Carrefour supermarket chain, brewed in an industrial French brewing plant which apparently does a lot of these commissioned beers. Very thick and frothy, intricately cobweb-lacing, snow white, fluffy head on a crystal clear, pure warm golden beer with slight 'old gold' tinge (ever so slightly darker than average - no doubt this is the added caramel's contribution) and disparate sparkling here and there. Aroma of sweet corn (water), wet plaster, soggy breakfast cereals, wet white paper, hints of raw spinach, damp kitchen towel and wallpaper paste. Neutral onset, going straight to cereally sweetishness with a sourish touch underneath, rounded but thinnish mouthfeel with average carbonation adding nevertheless 'refreshing' minerally notes; bit glueish aspect too, no doubt related to the added glucose syrup and caramel, which also seem to make it sweeter than is usually the case in this kind of beers. Metallic around the edges, with this sweet caramel touch returning retronasally, in a very industrial and stale way (think Leffe Blonde and the like); the hop extract does add a slight, waferthin but faintly lingering grassy bitter touch, but it is this cereally slickness along with that caramelly sweet element which keeps dominating - so in the end, not much changes between the first sip and the last. Drinkable as a cheap supermarket lager of slightly below average ABV - but clearly produced as cheaply as possible too, along a worn-out formula which should not only annoy the experienced beer lover, but the casual pale lager drinker alike. Completely devoid of character and bland to the bone - what did I expect, right?...
