--Sample, thanks AndySnow! -- Clear golden, minimal head. Aroma of malt syrup, Very sweet with thin body and rounded mouthfeel. Pretty much all about diluted malt syrup. No bitterness.

Bottle, shared by Cunningham/ChrisOfstad. A clear, golden colored drink with a small white head. The aroma is toffee-ish, bready malty with a gentle fruityness. Sort of fruity-sour on the palate, thin and gently carbonated, with more sweetness than bitterness. Fruity flavor too, with malts in the back. Medium length finish. Sort of refreshing, nothing more. But at least not foul tasting. 240728

Looks ok. Clear golden and a fine white head Mild intensity in the aroma Not to sweet and more or less no bitterness Ok carbonation level Malty, wort, herbal and something that reminded me of fruit in the flavor Surely fair enough on a deadly hot day in Iraq. {Bottle from ChrisOfstad] Brewery #2671

Iraqi malt drink – so technically not a real beer, but a non-alcoholic drink based on the same ingredients as beer, differing from it mainly (or only) by not being fermented, which would potentially leave spores of alcohol even after the alcohol-withdrawing process, something a strict Islamic country like Iraq of course seeks to avoid. Thanks to tderoeck again for sharing the sample. Loose and bubbly, off-white, irregular, quickly opening head, clear and pure ‘old golden’ robe. Aroma of wet old cereals, soggy chicken food, oxidized apple or pear juice, dust, margarine. Watery body, a thin sweet-grainy taste made sweeter by an impression of sugars (apple juice-like in this case) but also with a slight sourish edge underneath; no hop or other bitterness present, just this odd, thin sweetness and graininess continuing, with a somewhat buttery note in the end. Thin, bit odd, bland malt drink, but nothing undrinkable going on here – in fact I had western ‘de-alcoholized’ pale lagers which tasted a lot worse than this!
