Very few Continental lagers are packaged into cask but the exceptions are kellerbiers. These lagers are produced annually at the end of the summer and served fresh from cask following a secondary fermentation.

The resultant beer has all the advantages of traditional fresh British “Real Ale” but with the refreshing lightness of true lager beer and our Kellerbier is a great example. Light bready maltiness balanced with a subtle hoppiness for the best of both worlds

Cask at the brewery. Poured a hazy golden straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a smooth, malt, lemon citrus, light floral, light dry hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.

[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading.] An amber pour with a ring of white head; grainy aroma with a hint of citrus; crisp grainy taste, but a soapy body; and a sweeter finish. Unexciting.

Cask at Crown, Horsell. Light citrus with a sweet yeasty underbelly. Slightly hazy pale gold. Creamy translucent white head just clings to the rim. Medium bodied. Slick. Soft carbonation. Abrupt finish. Some astringency. Nice enough if not overly exciting.
