This kettle soured ale is proof that sometimes the best notes fall outside traditional scales. Thorny Horn is a raspberry brown ale augmented with lively lactobacillus; a jazzy jam session with a sour overtone. Pucker up and play the sour note.

473ml can. Pours a murky amber-brown with a medium, fizzy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Semi-sweet aroma of bready malt, caramel, raspberry, fig and light nuts. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, raspberry, lemon and fig in a dry, tart lacto finish. Light to medium body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Tasty and enjoyable.

Bottle at Biercraft Cambie. Light brown, thin head. Light woody, acidic aroma. Lots of raspberry taste, light tartness, clean. Similar to liefmans frambozen when it went sweet.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Hazy dark amber color with compact head. Mild aroma of raspberries and raspberry jam. Nice mouthfeel, round and smooth, with moderate residual sweetness; malty flavor, clear bready component, and raspberry purée; low bitterness, but a mild sourness and astringency help to keep the interest high in the final too.
A bit like a liquid raspberry donut.
Nice.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours an opaque dark amber brown with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry dark tart fruits and some bready malt. Flavour is huge on the raspberry, with moderately sweet raspberry, a touch of pith, and a touch of wood. Very clean, fruity and nicely sweet, with a light tart finish. This is actually pretty decent.
