500ml can. Minimally milky, amber-ish, ruby colour with small, frothy, fading, off-white head. Mildly smoky, slightly woody, caramel malty and fruity aroma, hints of red berries, fudge, barbecue marinade, lozenge. Taste is tart-ish, mildly smoky, fruity and caramel malty, hints of red berries and morello, plum, ham, ashy-smoky overtones; lingering, tart fruity finish. Watery texture, minimally astringent palate, medium to fine, prickly carbonation. Mildly smoky, rather tart - enjoyable.

500ml can from Beru Vykhodnoy. Pours opaque amber with a thin white head. Aroma is smoked, caramel, dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, malt, dried fruits, smoked wood. Light sour finish. Alcohol is masked well. Full bodied. Somewhat hard to drink. To me it seems like a cross between a Rauchbier and a strong dark lager. In fact at times it was as if I was drinking a “Baltic porter” made by a Lithuanian macro brewery that had gone sour.
