Nice aroma, taste is less exciting but it’s alright. Bit thin again. But decent saison yeastiness. Bubblegum. Kind of raw, but nice

Feeling nostalgic for festivals so I grabbed my Foudres Unis glass to try a new brew in the sunshine. The first time I visited this brewery in Nara they’d been open just a few days and weren’t brewing yet but they’ve now been available at Seijo Ishii and I grabbed some bottles to go in Nara Station. Yamato Saison 6% Opaque straw gold with a lingering bright eggshell white head of foam. The aroma is sharply phenolic with hints of banana and wheat malt spice notes. Sharp fruit notes and saison spice with a bit of a sour tang. Ok to a bit under average so for an over 500¥ beer it needs work.

Bottle from Seijo Ishii. Pours an amber-orange color with a slight hazy and a large, thick, foamy head. Nose is rich honey malts, estery Belgian yeast profile, orange, peaches, spicy. No fruit or spices added, though. Flavor is quite nice. Malty and a bit on the sweet side, with wheat and biscuits, quite fruity and spicy though not over the top. Finish is crisp and fruity, with grape juice notes and a light hop bitterness. Not a great saison, but not a bad one either. It almost manages to finish dry after a sweet start. I'd prefer it a bit drier with more hop character, but this is a good start from a relatively new brewery.
