Bottle, gift from Marc Morshuis. Dark amber color. Maltaroma with dried fruit, toffee, vanilla and brandy in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with oak, vanilla, armagnac, toffee and grapes. Very sweet, but with complexity.

Amber beer, small head. Aroma is fruit, malt, alcohol, dark fruit, raisins, Taste is the same, alcohol warmth, very nice.

At a tasting thanks, smallish bubbly head, murky dark red to brown color, aroma of wood, nuts with stinky and raisin hints, nutty woody raisin flavor with vanila and cakey malt in the back, alcohol coming through in time. Nice, a bit fierce.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max's place. Thanks Stas. Hazy amber. Vinous, malt, caramel, a bit of cookie, a bit of toffee, oak, fruitiness, a bit of vanilla, sweet, medium-bodied, rounded mouthfeel. Very nice.

Bottle from Bierbrigardier. Dark amber with beige head. Malty with marzipan, oak, Armagnac, caramel and loads of sweet dried grapes.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B/17D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L15022. AROMA: moderate to intense notes that resemble ripe cantaloup melon, followed by cask and vinous aromas. Spicy alcohol adds complexity. medium-low malt aroma with toffee notes. APPEARANCE: medium dark amber color and clear. medium-large ivory head with good retention. leg formation. TASTE: initial vinous flavor with a gentle cask note and peppery alcohols. slight ripe cantaloup melon flavor. malt flavor is moderate with notes of toffee. medium-low bitterness but malt balanced. finishes dry. PALATE: medium to medium-high body with moderate carbonation. very faint wood derived tanininc astringency. slight hot alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a very good and balanced wood aged barley wine.
