Bottle. Almost clear amber/copper with a proper nice but short-lived white head. Aroma of malts, honey and phenolic smoke. Taste of wood, caramel, malts, honey and a little bit of bacon with even a vague fruitiness. Moderate bitterness. Medium carbonation. Neat. If I was teaching about Rauchbier (which I’m admittedly not qualified for) this would be one of the beers I‘d tell the more timid ones of my padawans to try first as it’s rather mild and easy drinking while not that overwhelming; and I consider it always a good sign when a beer like this makes me want to check if there’s still some Laphroiag left in the cabinet.

50cl bottle. A clear dark amber beer with a big most good lasting beige head. Aroma of moderate smoked malt, caramel, some bacon. Taste of mild bacon, caramel, mild reddish malt, smoke.

Dark brown colour, beige foam. Some caramel, light smoke, a bit fruity. A weak and not very well balanced Rauchbier.

Süffiger, wenig süßer Beginn, rund rauchig. Moderate Herbe, süffig bleibend, zunehmend malzig, etwas Bitterschokolade. Mittellanger Abgang, rund. 10/10/9/10/12/10

500ml bottle. Cloudy, brown colour with ruby shimmer and small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Mildly smoky, slightly caramel and minimally chocolately, malty aroma, hints of smoked ham, wood ashes. Taste is caramel malty, mildly smoky, minimally chocolately, hints of dark caramel, wood ashes, a touch of smoked ham. Minimally oily, watery texture, smooth and soft, simultaneously minimally repellent, metallic palate, medium, soft to flat carbonation. Nice, mild smokiness, light body, a tad simple - decent.
