From tap at Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival 2016. Aroma is dark malt, strong aniseed, plenty of chocolate, winter spices, caramel. Flavour is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Nice winter spiced Porter, bit heavy on the aniseed though.

Strong porter from a still young range of craft beers made in a brewpub in Apeldoorn, thanks to Craftmember for sharing the bottle. Thick and frothy, yellowish beige, small-bubbled, stable head on a very dark chocolate brown beer – in fact as good as black, but still leaving a translucent, misty mahogany colour around its edges. Aroma of dried prunes, coffee grounds, old raisins, brown bread, haemoglobin, walnut paste, caramel, cigar tobacco leaves, glazed pear, bee wax hint faraway in the background. Sweetish onset, raisins and prunes returning, softish carb, smooth and rounded body; caramelly, bit pecan-nutty, slightly chocolatey bittersweet maltiness remaining more sweet than bitter, even though a gentle coffeeish roastiness is noticeable in the tail, paired with a lingering sourish blackberry-like note, a very vague echo of liquorice and a soft dash of herbal hops. That ‘blood iron’-like feeling accompanies most of the flavour ‘parcours’ as well, but the alcohol, though considerable to say the least, remains almost perfectly hidden. Fruity, easygoing, supple, balanced and technically well-constructed porter, more akin to the old English brown porter style (albeit at high strength) than to the spicier American porter style – but still ‘dark’ enough to be quite stout-like as well (as is the case with so many other contemporary porters, of course). Enjoyed this one, made me curious to try their coffee stout as well, considering this one already has a certain coffee element to it…

Bottle. Deep dark brown color, Malty caramelly aroma with hints of boiler vegetables. Malty sweet flavor, roasty, caramelly, with boiler vegetables. Licorice in the finish. Alcoholic. Could be better.

Quite thick, nice and creamy. Lots of flavors going on in this, chocolate and orange at first, anise after warming a bit. Nice one.

33cl Bottle from Douberd, thanks Christos! Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma of liquorice, star anise, metal, hint of dish cloth, roasted malts, chocolate, some mocha. Flavour is sweet, roasted malts, liquorice, star anise, metal, sludge, bittersweet finish. Medium bodied, over - carbonated. Has potential.

Many thanks to beerhunter111 for sharing. Smooth and fresh beginning, Lots of chocolate, smooth with a moderate bitterness. Easy to drink but a bit too soft-sweetish. No bitterness, chocolate soft but nice roasted with a smooth chocolate-sweetish body.

33cl bottle from a trade with Douberd, many thanks! Pours hazy very dark brown colour with a mid-sized most good lasting tan head. Aroma of chocolate, mint, herbs, vanilla. Taste of dark mild roasted malt, mint, chocolate, vanilla, strange!
