19 April 2025. GBV 2012 Vintage Proeverij Hof Ten Dormaal @ Dracuna. Cheers to the whole crew!

Cured ham, black olive, brambleberry, toast, vanilla, tobacco. Sweet brambleberry & prune; bit herbal, meaty, toasty. Woody, vanilla-like finish, dried dark fruits and brandy. Quite good.

From a 75 cl bottle shared with Ryan. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a thick, but quickly dissipating head, leaving no trace. Cognac nose. Flavors of berries, red wine, oak and plenty of alcohol. Effervescent mouthfeel. Short slightly bitter finish.

Bottle sample @ 18de Kerstbierfestival, Essen 2012. brune/cuivrée claire, col fin beige.

Sampled at OBER Kerstbierfestival 2012. Dark red brown color, small beige head. Aroma is weak imo. A bit similar to a couple of others from this series. Taste malts, sweetness, light to moderately the armagnac barrel aging comes forward, a touch of fruit and lightly bitter in the finish. Medium body, medium carbonation.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. This is where the series restarts, if I am not mistaken, exactly the same barrels were refilled with the dark beer as had been used previously to barrel age the blond beer, upon emptying them. Lighter black, def. darker than 10, the head is only a thin beiger rim around the sides of the glass. Smell is light sweet chocolate, light booze, viscous, light wood. Taste is sweet vinous, chocolate, light wood, booze, spices, caramel malt, light syrup berries,… Less carb. / med. I do like this still less than the base beer – if the base beer be donker, it is probably similar but not exactly that.
