75 cl. bottle sampled @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. This is where the series restarts, if I am not mistaken, exactly the same barrels were refilled with the dark beer as had been used previously to barrel age the blond beer, upon emptying them. Reddish black with no head. Smell is quite heavy on the booze, sweet syrup, herbs, light sticky dark fruits. Taste is sweet booze blended with some booze with apple qualities, syrup, brown sugar, caramel, herbs & quite a bit of the alternative grains that I find in their beers, spelt?, rye?. m/m body – agreeable start but still not entirely performing to expectations & if dark is the base beer, I actually dig this quite a bit less than the base beer.
