Occasionally a beer names itself, and this was the case with Smooth Operator. As a big, brown ale aged in Port barrels for 24 months we were a little surprised how easy-drinking it was, even though it clocks in at 8.7% ABV. The very first suggested name, Smooth Operator, was unanimously approved. This recipe uses a wide range of dark malts which play nicely off the red fruit and tannin from the Port barrels. The final beer is a delightful amalgam of red wine, chocolate, and cola notes with a clean, dry finish. We hope you like it.

A reddish brown ale with a very thin light mocha head. In aroma, caramel malt with light grassy hops, light oxidation, light mineral notes, so-so. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light grassy hops, light nutty notes, light cereals, OK. Bottle from brewery, from 2022.

375ml bottle. Pours an unclear brown with red hue and a small, foamy, short lived, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of chocolate malt, red wine, earthy yeast, oak and light vanilla. Sweet flavour of chocolate malt, caramel, earthy yeast and oak in a dry, mild bitter, red wine finish. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Delicious and enjoyable.
