Geruch hefig, intensiv malzig fruchtig. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig süß mit angenehmer Fruchtigkeit, hefig, minimal würzig.

Draft from BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush opening night on 29 November 2013. Poured a hazy, dark amber with a tight off-white head and good lacing. Full aroma of plums, molasses, cloves and wheat. Sweet flavours of maple syrup, sticky fruit, cereal and light, tart rind. Finish was molasses, dates, yeast esters and chewy malt. Really complex, but impeccably balanced example of the style.

500ml bottle. Hazy dark brown colour with huge, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Bready aroma, cautious fruity background, hints of apple syrup [Apfelkraut], baked banana, red apple, a pepper yeasty, mustard-like touch, some nutmeg and clove. Taste is moderately sweet, notes of apple syrup, a spicy touch of nutmeg and clove, hints of alcohol in the finish. Sticky and heavy.

Brewdog Shepherds Bush. Keg. Almost opaque dark brown beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth with fine carbonation. Sweetish malts with mild figgy dark fruits. A little malt cream and sweet bubblegum. Light finish. Delivers on the style without ever being spectacular.

Keg at BD Shep’s Bush. The opaque darkest brown with a small white head. The nose is sweet, pear drops, earthy, toast, dark fruit, spice, tang and HP sauce. The taste is smooth, sweet, caramel, dark fruit, candy, toast, spice, banana bread and earth with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Bit of an odd tangy-spicy thing on the nose, but tastes rather nice.

Keg at Brewdog Shepard’s Bush opening night. Aroma is sharp banana with a touch of acid. Not as warm and bready as other weizenbocks. Dark chestnut brown pour with a persistent off white head. Flavour is banana bread, semi sweet, slight sharp. Malt is bisvuity and caramel. Loose flabby palate.

500 ml bottle into weizen glass, unknown bottle code. Pours very hazy/murky dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger moderately dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big pear, grape, apple, raisin, caramel, toast, brown bread, wheat, molasses, light clove, light banana, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast and dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big pear, apple, grape, raisin, caramel, brown bread, wheat, molasses, toast, light banana, clove, herbal, light chocolate, and yeast earthiness. Light wheat tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, caramel, brown bread, wheat, molasses, toast, clove, light banana, herbal, light chocolate, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/bready malt flavors with yeast fruitiness; with a nice malt/fruitiness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent weizenbock. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
