Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small to medium, firm tan head. Nice lacing and head retention. Aroma of coffee, red berries, maple syrup, bitter chocolate, bread, toast, toffee and light ash. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter with notes of coffee, maple syrup, toast and sweet alcohol. Medium to full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice.

Sample from 650 ml. bottle. Pitch black with a small, tan head. Sweet aroma with roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Some cocoa and licorice. Taste is sweet. Full body, super creamy texture. Finishes dry and roasted with cholate. Lovely stout however, did not pick up any maple syrup.

Tap @Ratebeer event. Pours pitch black, medium dark brown head, good lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, touch of maple perhaps, cigarettes, and baking cocoa. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, medium bitter, light astringence. Significant warming on the finish. Good, not great.

Sample at the Ale Wine & Spirits beer tasting on 06/14/2013: This beer pours a viscous black color with a medium thick beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, coffee and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, roasted coffee and hops. The finish is roasty with burnt malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottled. Pitch black color, fluorescent brown head. Nose of massive dark malts, coffee, molasses. Quite sweet taste, umami, bitter. Massive is the key word.
