Invited to brew in the US I wanted to use local ingredients. Agamemnon is an Imperial Stout brewed with maple syrup. Boiled 7 hours.

Pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy head. Aroma is roasted malt, honey, smoked meat and some alcohol. Silky smooth and somewhat sticky mouth feel. Flavour is char coal, honey, licorice and warming alcohol.

Bottle at home. Pours Heavy black and gets a nice Brown head when you swirl the glasl. Taste of Heavy rosted, slightly burnt malt, soy sauce and some syrupy sweetness. Very similar to Hypnopompa, but less smooth and flattering.

Spuytin Duyvil, Brooklyn tap ($9): Pours black (my pour was to the tip top, so I didn’t see much head). Aroma is chocolate, syrup, roasted malts, a teenth of coffee. Flavor is somewhat sweet, but not cloying. Roasted malts and chocolate flavors mingle well together. High ABV is adequately covered. Easy to drink and quite flavorful.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013, 10/08/13. Light black with a thin tan head. Nose is big old roasty malts, oaky booze, earthy, a little harsh on the alcohol notes, minerals. The taste is a little more refined than the aroma, earthy, gritty, cocoa, dark fruits, dark toffee, light hoppy backnotes. Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly cloying in the finish with a touch of warming booze. Decent enough but no show stopper for the premier style!

Pitch black color with small brown head. Nice roasted malt aroma, coffee, with light phenol. Full bodied, with very good flavor of roasted malt, dark chocolate, moderate sweetness, hints of liquorice, a bit salty in the end; strong bitterness, the hopping is also resiny.
