Our ruby ale Red Macgregor brewed to 4.0 ABV. Deliciously perfumed with hints of spiciness and toasted malts. Rich hop fruits giving way to a clean dry refreshing hop bitterness.

Red ale. Quite a malty start followed by a mid of hoppy bitterness. Not too dry, a nice appetiser beer.

Pours dark amber with ruby highlights and a small head.Nose shows sweet, spicy fruitcake with extra helpings of all manner of dry fruit. And some added cognac and marmalade for good measure. Intensely fruity. Also some toasted sweet malt pokes it’s head out later. Damn that’s good.Similar flavours but with more caramel and dough malt, along with a decent helping of earthy, resinous hops. Finishes slightly watery though.Body is a little thing, I’d like something more syrup to go with those rich flavours.

Amber with a creamy beige head. Mild caramel aroma with lots of fruit, flowers and a little citrus and smoke. Taste has rich toffee with a little buttery slickness and nice drying bitterness. Floral and fruity with some smokey hints in the - to my taste - slightly over-rich malt that just fails to hide a lack of life in the mouth. Still, pretty good.

Sample from bottle at Glunz beer Expo, April 5. Rather miserly sample. But still a nice beer. Thick and malty with a nice smell, little bit of lace to it. Deep brown body. Full malt taste without peat or whiskey character.

Bottle: Clear, ruby-amber coloured, big stable off-white head; solid aromatic hoppy and toasty nose, supported by a light fruitiness; moderate dry bitter-sweet flavour, not too light bodied; toasted malt with illusions of cacao-powder in the dry fruity and hoppy finish. A very fine Ale....

Marigold, lily, and rose bouquet. Clear copper, thin head. Honey and rose flavor with a marigold finish. Medium body. Do you like floral hops? If so, you’ll love this beer, it has them in spades. Tons of character for an ESB.
