Our ruby ale Red Macgregor brewed to 4.0 ABV. Deliciously perfumed with hints of spiciness and toasted malts. Rich hop fruits giving way to a clean dry refreshing hop bitterness.

Deep copper color with a medium tan head that settles slowly and leaves shockingly good lacing. Aroma of peat, oak and smoke. Flavors start with sweet malts and progress quickly to wood, smoke, dark fruit and light spices. Very drinkable, complex and interesting.

Bottled 500ml. -Dark amber/copper coloured, medium sized off-white head, pleasant strong hoppy nose. Sweet toasted malt, grassy hops and caramel with notes of smoke and fruits. Bitter finish and long-lasting aftertaste. Better than cask version.

bottle - Pours deep ruby with a small head. The aroma is citrusy, yeasty, and hoppy with some cherry character. There’s some decent hops in the flavor but the malt is coming up short. It’s subdued and thin bodied, even a little watery. Between that and a hint of sourness, I’m wondering if there’s a bit of infection here, not overpowering, but something seems off. I’m pretty tired of how common it is for the pricey English and Scottish brews in 500ml bottles we get over here to have quality issues. This one smells good and then it’s downhill.

(bottle) Clear, ruby amber colour with a thick and slightly beige foamy head. Lemon-fruity, slightly woody and zesty hoppy aroma with a toasty and slightly peaty malty blend. Bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light to almost medium bodied with a mild carbonation. Dry toast-malty base with hints of caramel and peat and a present underlying slightly fruity and woody hops character. Dry and moderately bitter finish with toasty notes and liquorice. Balanced brew. 06.XI.09

500 ml bottle from my friend in Aberdeen! Clear dark cherry red with a big beige, lightly lacing head. Nose is very heavy with caramel, nuts, and light floral hops.Flavor is lightly bitter with an oatmeal granola note to go with the caramel. Would be a great session beer.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.0%. Copper to mahogany coloured beer, big off-white head. Pleasant aroma of lightly toasted malts, caramel and floral and fruity hops. The flavour is first very malt-accented with caramel and biscuits, then spicy and moderately fruity hops come through, leaving a nice bitterness in the aftertaste. Definitely a good Scottish ale this one.

500ml bottle from Villeneuvewines in Edinburgh. Great lacework from a decent off-white head. Ruby-brown body colour. Moderate dry malty smell. Light taste of caramel malts with slight smokiness. Some hints of bitterness on the swallow. Medium bodied. Good, but it didn’t match the cask version [25.10.2008].
