Our head brewer Jason is a big fan of porters aged in bourbon barrels, but being an American living in Finland, he is always looking to add a Finnish touch to his American beer styles. So he took our Pacman Porter (normal version to come in 2017) and aged it on French Oak that had been soaked in Jallu for a month. In addition to the beer’s standard coffee and chocolate notes with 8-Bit’s signature smooth and easy to drink finish, the oak added a hit of vanilla and the familiar sweet nose of Jallu.

Draught@Craft Beer Helsinki 2017. Black colour, small off-white head. Aroma is roasted, some mild ashes, some liquoice and vanilla. Flavou is vanilla, some ashes, mild oast, chocolate and some slight dried fruits.

5.4 % ABV version. Negligible smell, black colour, with light brown head. Aroma of ash, coffee, oak. Some jallu to be noted. Bitter. Light body, if this was 6.3 previously, it probably was better.

Tap @craft beer Helsinki. Poured black in color with a thick brown head. Roastedness, tobacco, wood and licorice. Sweet roasty, some coffee and mild licorice. Pleasant stuff.

(Keg at CBH2017) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, sweetness, vanilla and ash. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, burnt malts, brandy, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, burnt and bitter. An interesting brew.

Draught @ Ota Olut! Pours dark reddish brown with a smooth head. Aroma of mild roastiness, caramely malts, hints of oak and toffee. Taste is sweetish, malty and caramely with some hints of roastiness, earthiness and oak. Finish is smooth and slightly boozy with hints of oak and Jallu. Draught @ Ota Olut! Aroma has some roastiness and sweet, ripe fruits. Flavour has minerals, some roastiness, wood and liquor-like tones (Jallu?) A bit out of balance but decent.
