Black IPA is a style that proves to be divisive. Traditionally this style is encapsulated by the hop-forward balance, and flavour characteristics of an American IPA, only darker in colour.
The dark malt base is supposed to give a gentle and supportive character rather than the robust and powerful roasted or burnt flavours.
Our love affair with black IPAs began early in 2019 with the award-winning 'Answer Is None'. We make a yearly effort to revisit the style and explore and refine it.
Aromas of pine, mango, mint and herbal notes are followed by undertones of liquorice and lightly roasted character.
As the beer opens up, Stone Fruit aromas are at the forefront from the dry-hop of Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus, Citra and Mosaic

From tap at Van Moll Fest 2022. Roasty aroma with chocolate, fruity hop, pine, citrus. Some liquorice. Very bitter with a roasty hoppy finish. Medium body. Proper roasty hoppy Black TIPA.

Harm wanted a black TIPA, so here we are. All the goodness of BIPAs, but attempted to triple. Roasty, hoppy, plenty of fruityness and a good bite to it. Pretty heavy, but lighter drinking than your average 10% stout. Could be a bit more piney, but yay.

Draft. A black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, hops, and dark chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, hops, and smoke, leading to a bitter finish. Not enough aroma hops for my liking, more like a stout than a Black IPA.
