Bottle @ Odense Tasting, September 2011. Pours dark ruby brown with a small creamy head. Vague roast and hops. Tart, roasted and hoppy. Oily and slick. A bit odd like some of the others. Not sure if it works but drinkable. Warmth . .

Black color; medium-sized beige creamy head. Nice aroma of continental hops (Saaz-like, green cones, hop oils). Good body strength; strong chocolate flavor, dynamic, with some roasted malts and a mild sourness; correct bitterness, leading to a balanced final.
Interesting and very enjoyable.

Very small beige rim over deep red-brown beer. Strikingly dry-hoppy nose (non-C hops), new carpet; coffee in the background. Sourish-burnt flavour; stout-like acidity, the "carpet"flavour (solvent?) arrives in the finish, but remains pretty hidden, compared to the nose. Pretty dry, but lively carbonated MF. Medium to well-bodied. Much less roasted/coffeelike than the non-Saphir version; more hoppy (especially in the nose), but the acidity is less Brett-like, a bit indifferent. Less characteristic, but maybe a tad more balanced.

Bottle at ACBF 2011. Deep black in the glass, small head. Malty-roasty aroma. Starts intense malty, more and more roasty, some earthy notes. Finish well balanced with interesting notes of bitter chocolate. Really good!

Alvinne Craft Beer Festival (ACBF) 2011, De Kasteelhoeve, Doorniksesteenweg 314, Outrijve (Avelgem), Belgium.Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate malt, coffee, spicy - saphir. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, light light acidic and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, soapy, spicy, peppery, spicy - soapy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110304]
