Motley Cru is not one particular beer but a catch-all designation for the beer we’ve decided to release to mark the completion of another lap around the sun. This iteration of our anniversary beer is particularly special because the beer itself is an ode to the Lambic beer that inspired us to get into beer-making in the first place and the anniversary in question is our tenth!

Motley Cru 2022 is a three year blend of spontaneous coolship beer. It was aged in neutral barrels and blended together to our taste, with the more mature beer providing classic wild fermentation characteristics and the younger beer exhibiting clean and fruity qualities. Combined, they provide the best of both worlds. In striking our preferred balance between older and newer barrels, we were also striving to create a beer that is simultaneously true to what we do and a nod to what Belgian Lambic breweries have been doing for centuries.

Motley Cru 2022 boasts fruity aromas of passion fruit, damp forest floor and subtle oak. Clean pleasant acidity, reminiscent of sweet tart. Notes of green pepper and rhubarb as well.

Bottle from the brewery. Cloudy orange, medium off white head. Tart, funky, wet hay, barnyard nose. This is a real wild ale. Nice and tart, lactic and sharp lemon zest. Medium to highly tart, fantastic tart, funky finish. Excellent stuff.

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color ale with a large white foamy head with light retention and not much lacing. Aroma of funky ester notes with some tart notes and light oak presence also noticeable. Taste is also a good mix of funky ester notes with some light tart notes Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable but not as complex as some prior year version.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a medium white, foamy white head. Aroma is certainly complex, with lots of wild yeast, some barnyard funk, leather, and oak. Flavour is complex and buggy, with lots of wild yeast, oak, some barnyard notes, and leather. Oaky, buggy, gently citrusy, with excellent integration. Excellent blend; everything works really cohesively.
