Bottle at the source. The colour is hazy brown with a very small off-white head. Aroma of fudge, rye bread, dried fruit and grains. Flavour of brown sugar, bread, apricots and game meat. Has a silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a soft bitterness. Malty and rich, but a little simple.

330 ml bottle, at the brewpub. ABV is 8.5%. Brewed with locally produced malts, named after the farmer. Moderately hazy brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of malts and caramel. Smooth mouthfeel. Pleasant flavour of malts and caramel, well balanced. Moderate hops.

Bottle, at the brewpub. An unclear amber to brown beer with a creamy, finger-thick beige head. Some lacing. The aroma has lots of caramel, bread and dried apricot, some alcohol and a touch of oxidation or something in that direction. There’s also a very light roasted touch, and a piney, resiny hoppy scent. It’s full-bodied, creamy, and lightly warming on the palate. Rather heavily carbonated, and with a bitterness level matching the sweetness. Caramel, dark bread, dried apricot, piney and resiny hops and a little alcohol in the flavor. Vague notes of licorice too, along with a gentle roasted malt flavor. Quite fruity too. Lasting finish. I wouldn’t mind a bit more bitterness and hops in general, and a bit less carbonation, else it’s a very fine one. 220812
