A Robust Dark Bitter. Simple and satisfying - the key components of a good best bitter. Maverick ticks both boxes, with fruity British hops on top of a robust malt backbone for a rich, dark ale to savour. Layers of warming, roasted malt, dried dark fruits and candied orange flavours, with a mellow, sweet finish.

Cask at Three Tuns, Dronfield - Ruby colour with your standard bitter head. Light slightly floral nose, some brown sugar. The taste is very much of a classic bitter. Some caramel, nuttiness. A bit rustic, nice dry finish. This pint plays it straight as a bitter, though that’s not a bad thing. it was very well put together.

A dark, reddish beer with a thick off-white head and a fruity aroma. A malty flavour with a fruity edge but quite light and refreshing with it.

(Cask at Gallows Bird, 20120908) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had caramell, toffee and malts. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were malts, liquorice, tartness and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty and bitter. Perhaps this cask had gone bad.
