Je krijgt een helderblond bier waarbij de focus ligt op de hop maar toch met een goede moutige ondertoon en de klassieke smaken van een Belgische gist, samen met een stevige bitterheid.

Hoppug tripel dry-hopped with the old familiar Amarillo, developed already in 1990 but only marketed as a new variety since 2003, and known for its orange-like aromas; at Gents Bierfestival. Snow white, moussy, medium thick, stable head, clear 'old golden' robe with pale apricot tinge. Aroma of ripe apricot, orange zest indeed, pineapple, brioche bread, pear, slight halfripe banana, mandarin, crackers, touch white pepper, field flowers. Fruity onset, banana and pineapple esters mixed with apricot and pear impressions, softish in carbonation (especially for a tripel) with full but smooth, lean mouthfeel; cereally, bit (dry) cookie-ish maltiness, sweetish, under a growing, eventually very long-stretched, lovely citrusy hoppiness, evoking southernwood, pomelo, orange zest and chamomile, effectuating a spicy but never harsh bitterness. The alcohol remains well hidden. Very decent dry-hopping here, basically an oldskool Belgian tripel infused with New World effects - and that is not the worst way to liven up the old and worn-out tripel style if you ask me. Refreshing, bright and easily drinkable, this qualifies as a really good tripel for me.

Bottle at home. A bit hazy orangy color, white head. Aroma and flavor are malts, nicely hoppy, hoppy bitter, bitter. Solid hoppy tripel. Not bad at all.

33cl bottle (8,5%) from Quali Drinks in Mechelen. F: medium, white, good retention. C: deep gold, light hazy. A: orange, tangerine, bit tropical fruits, spicy, bit caramel. T: full malty base, orange, grapefruits, spicy, mellow tropical fruits, nice harmonic bitterness, higher abv is well masked, medium carbonation, good hoppy Tripel almost like IIPA, fully enjoyed.
