Toasted Rice Lager (Note: ABV ranges from 5 - 5.5%)
The first American beer brewed specially for Chinese cuisine! The combination of the rice lager's sweetness alongside flavors of baked fruits such as lychee and pineapple cool guests' palates between bites of spicy dishes showcasing ingredients like szechuan peppercorns. The rice lager is great at balancing that sour, spice and fattiness in the dumpling. With so much flavor coming from Chinese cuisine, it helps to have a neutral light lager to balance it.
FLAVOR: Baked Lychee; Baked Pineapple
AROMATICS: Lightly Toasted Jasmine Rice
BODY: Light
COLOR: Vintage Champagne
ABV: 5.5%
As Moody Tongue has continued to search for thoughtful ways to extend the bounds of its culinary brewing philosophy, the brewery recently sought to construct a beer with respect for the culinary traditions, cooking techniques and ingredients across one of its most exciting markets — China. The combination of the Toasted Rice Lager’s sweetness with flavors of baked fruits such as lychee and pineapple cools guests’ palates between bites of spicy dishes showcasing ingredients like chili and fresh sichuan peppercorns. This beer’s light body also complements many dishes with delicate flavors such as steamed fish and the Shanghai specialty hairy crab. Reminiscent of a vintage champagne, we suggest enjoying this beer to cool and refresh your palate between bites of flavorful dishes while exploring China’s regional cuisines.

3$ bottle from vintage. Pour is uncontrollable foaming white, all over the place, down sides of my glass and all over my porch, balderdash! Surprisingly, the foam fades to nuttin after a minute, whatever. Somewhat neutral mild fresh cut grass nose. First taste is a little light leather with tons of bubbling co2, building up pressure in my mouth, whew. I like bubbly beer on my palate, especially the cutting kind such as this. The amount of foaming with each slug out of the bottle is quite entertaining. I'll give it an extra point on the look for this display. Except for that slight leather flavor, the beer remains quite respectable, comes across like many a macro pale lager, with its own variation in personality. Yea, not bad, quite civilized, but this stuff costs about six times more than my go to cheap pale lager, outlaw light, for about the same level of satisfaction. There you have it, straight from the pie-hole of a merikan pale lager lover.

12oz bottle. Like most Moody Tongue beer, it comes off thin, lacking, borderline off. Ingredients seem right, it just doesn't come together well. Big rice tone works, but the finesse just isn't there.

6 October 2022. At The Dooryard, San Antonio. Shared with the lovely Anke!
A: clear pale golden, small, foamy, white head.
A: cooked rice, corn, bread crust.
T: sweetish apple, rice & bread.
F: crisp & malty, soft grassy hops.
P: light to medium body, slick texture, average carbonation.
It is what it is and not bad at that.

Ausgesprochen würzig-fruchtiges Lager, erst Litchi, Malz, dann Getreide, fast crispy, noch nie ein vergleichbares Bier getrunken, wunderbares Ding!

Bottle, 0.355l. Aroma is grainy, grassy, dusty and floral with note of a plum wine. Pours clear golden color with large soapy white head, fair lacing and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with tart citrus, pineapple and white wine, following is bready, toasted malty, grassy and slightly medicinal, mouthfeel is rather dry, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, oily texture and carbonation in palate. Drinkable, but weird...

355ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, orangey golden colour with average, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity and sweet-ish, grainy aroma, hints of pineapple, glutinous rice. Taste is slightly dry, fruity, minimally grainy, hins of pineapple, glutinous rice, subtle spiciness. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, minimally coarse, prickly carbonation. I can imagine that this would match very well with Asian food; but I doubt that it can reduce the hot spiciness.
