An almost forgotten beer style originally brewed in 1870 rejuvenated with a blend of English hops that lend a gentle hint of dark fruits on top of a layer of roasted malts.

Bottle. A, small, dense, off-white head leaves lacings. Clear, dark golden body except for some floaties. The aroma is mostly malty, in a not too pleasant way. Some resiny, grassy hints. The flavor is pretty much the same, with some bitterness. Hints of coffee and roasted malts. Full to medium body with a pleasant carbonation level. Maltysweet finish with a touch of roasted malts. Well, can’t say I’m impressed, must say I’m glad I don’t live in the 1870’s. 140418

Bottled (from AbM). Now this was a funny beer. Deep amber colour, mediumsized beige foamy/creamy head that leaves thick lace. Aroma is mild fruits, some slightly toasted notes along with some floral notes as well. Flavour is slightly toasted malts along with some caramel and mild ripe dark fruity notes as well as some slight berries. The intereting thing with the beer comes after a good while in the aftertaste, having a small sip of this and waiting 10-15 seconds gives a nice coffeeish note to it. Nice surprise.
