The Krenkerup Rauch Bier or Smoked beer, is one of our flagship beers and winner of 3 Gold medals in the renowned European Beer Star competition. Complex and sweet, with a very distinct smoky flavor, that is in perfect balance with the rest of the ingredients.

Bottle. Pours clear light amber with medium white head. Aroma is malt, grain and hints of soap. No peat in the aroma! Taste is medium sweet, light bitter and light acidic. Body is oily with lively carbonation. Finish is long and light bitter with notes of malt, sugar, syrup and lemon. As the beer warms up vague hints of smoked ham or bacon appears. There’s really not enough smoked malt in this beer to call it a rauch bier!

Bottle. Pours very slightly hazy copper brown with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, smoke and yeast, with notes of hops. Bitter and roasty flavour, with smoky touches and notes of malt, caramel and leaves. Hints of fruit. Bitter and slightly estery aftertaste. Quite decent.

0.5l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a blurry dark golden one with a small light islandy and sidesticking off-white top. Really nice aroma. Sweet smoked ham with with some hay and toned down hints of licorice and salmon. A really comfortable non-extreme rauch aroma. Right below average on the carbonation and the mouthfeel is quite thin oily. Not as smoky in the flavor to be honest, but there are traces of smoke. Not exploding of flavor in my mouth, but it's still enough that I can call this a well balanced one. Bitterness? Nah, not really. Probably a nice introduction to a non-smoked beer drinker. 06.02.2013

Bottle shared with (and great courtasy of) the Bergen Tasting Crew. Pours a pretty clear golden mahogny colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet smoked meat, oak, leather and is pretty malty. Pleasant. The flavour is more faint mix of the same. A bit disappointing. Has a slick and light mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. Nice aroma but the rest didnt follow.

50 cl bottle @ Timo A, BBE 30.11.2012
Aroma has tar, wood and smoke. Flavour has also tar, some smoke and woody notes. Reminds me of "Tervaleijona". Too sticky but good anyway.

500 ml bottle, from NETTO. ABV is 5.2%. Amber colour, large off-white head. Strong aroma of smoked sausages (yes, I know it is beechwood-smoked malts, but it smells like sausage anyway!). Fairly light bodied. The flavour is first fresh and inviting, before the smoked sausages take over again. Moderate bitterness. As Norwegian actor and comedian Leif Juster sings in a film from the 1940s: "Pølsemaker, pølsemaker, hvor har du gjort av deg?"
