Unser Gessner Alt Sumbarcher Dunkel strahlt mit seiner intensiven Mahagonifarbe und rötlichen Reflexen, gepaart mit einer Krone aus kräftigem beigem Schaum, eine klare Eleganz aus. Mit der Nase vernimmt man Düfte von Dörrpflaume und auch etwas Schokoladenlebkuchen. Diese Eleganz in Optik und Aroma wird nur noch überboten von der perfekten Balance zwischen dem vollmundigen, an Schwarzbrotkruste erinnernden, leicht röstigen Malzkörper und einer nur im Hintergrund mitwirkenden Hopfennote. Der samtig-weiche Abgang dieser Spezialität lässt den Bierliebhaber nach dem genüsslichen ersten Schluck mit einer Harmonie aus dezenter schwarzer Johannisbeere, Bratapfel und Lakritz in freudiger Erwartung des nächsten zurück.

DØE. Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and caramel. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. 240513

Bottle @ DØE. Dark amber/brown with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel and bread. Flavour is malt, caramel, bread, medium sweet, little chocolate and a little bitter.

Sample @ DØE. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are caramel, fruits, flowers, hops and roast malt.

Bottle. Clear dark brown with a large frothy head. Aroma is light roast malt. Flavour is roast milk chocolate with a dry bittersweet finish.

bottle from Fristo in/near Coswig. Deep brown colour, large and creamy beige head. Intensively malty with a lovely roasyt touch, shy smoky hints, hints of nuts and dried fruit. Shy hoppy finish. Perfectly balanced and delicious and very moreish Dunkel.

Bottle @ Bierzwerg.de. Pours dark ruby amber with a creamy head on top. Lots of caramel and a bit of bread and dark fruit. Vaguely roasted. Smooth and medium bodied. Good.

50cl bottle, BBE 06/2012. Poured dark brown with a decent beige head. Aroma is bready and roasty. Flavor is bread, roasted malt and hint of chocolate. Quite dry finish. OK dunkel.

clear dark amber, smooth offwhite head. nutty aroma, flowery. flavor is nutty, sweet caramelly. very low hops, bitternness is present but mostly in the far end of the aftertaste.

500ml bottle. Chestnut coloured with a tight, off-white head. Sweet caramel and fruit aroma. Light mouth feel, with sweet malts, red currants, a touch of chocolate and warming alcohol finish. Ok.
