With every spring comes new possibilities. A magical awakening to the year that lies ahead. With a thirst for always venturing off the beaten path, our palates have wandered north to explore a world rooted in rich harvesting traditions. The result? Nordic Spring – a super citrusy hazy IPA brewed with Norwegian Kveik yeast, wild juniper berries, orange peel and Danko rye malt.

Balanced yet bursting with waves of flavor, the Kviek yeast used in Nordic Spring ferments at higher temperatures, imparting strong citrus and tropical notes that can warm up the coldest of Norwegian springs.

Nordic Spring is the first release of our 2023 Off-Centered Art Series, donning whimsical artwork from our good pal Natalya Balnova. Based in New York, Natalya works as an illustrator, designer and printmaker whose playful work can be found across dozens of publications and brands.

Very hazy, almost fully opaque, raw honey coloured, light blonde body with a thick, four to five centimetre tall nice tan head that fades moderately quickly with a 95 per cent opaque glow - nice! Aroma of oranges, light curacao, alcohol, light flowers, some strong gin notes and a good deal of fresh hops - very nice in the nose! Medium-bodied; Very strong and floral, grassy, perfumey notes show up front with pine, juniper berries, lemons, spruce and dry cleanser noticeable with some enjoyable sweetness (from citrus fruits, it seems) at the end and some noticeable alcohol, too. Aftertaste is crisp, clean, dry, but somehow full of complexity, much more than most IPAs, especially in the ~7 per cent ABV range, with a nice layer of sweetness, a good malt backbone and the dry, bitter and complex hop bite that persists throughout. Overall, a very nice fresh, super clean IPA that was much better than I expected - perhaps the best DFH beer I've had in YEARS and I was just at the brewery in Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, Delaware a few months ago! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Trader Joe's [grocery] in Skyline (Falls Church), Virginia on 07-February-2023 for US$2,17 with a 'best by?' date of June 2023 on the bottom of the can and sampled at my house here in Washington on 12-April-2023.

Poured from 355mL can (canned June 2023). Lightly hazy gold with small white head. Juniper and mild gooseberries and orange peel with mild citrus hops, kveik yeast, decent, but forgettable.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is all juniper berry with other assorted berries. Flavor is more juniper and maybe some fresh cut peaches. Finish is bitter orange peel. This was a pretty good IPA with different ingredients.

12oz can. Sahti IPA? Juniper works pretty well. Sweet, estery. I am not a fan of Kveik, but this one isn't so bad I suppose. Unique enough, the subtle rye tone gives it some heart. A lot of depth.

Just like linus before me; 12 oz can and its smell is an orange blossom & pineapple olfactory. Hazy dark yellow with shit floating around and settling on the bottom of the glass. First impressions on taste is a dull fruit IPA hops sensation. Not sure if its super citrusy or not, as claimed in the description. It says it's an off-centered art series, but it's just another one in a billion IPA out there. I'm beginning to think that anything IPA is just a marketing gimmick nowadays. And so is this, DFH has lost its direction since they sold out to boston beer. So be it. It's mouthcoating, like any typical IPA and its terribly on style. Let's ride the wave of IPA until it's no longer profitable. Then we'll sell the company. One day, I'll figger out that all the IPAs taste pretty much the same but hey, it's a tik for RB! There, you have it! This beer is not as big of an off-centered beer that it says it is. Not enjoyable.

End of a session, I like IPAs to be in that spot. This evening it is Nordic Spring, okay by me, my wife is Norwegian. A snifter to receive the pour, a dense, cloudy, yellow-orange body with a small skim of white foam. It smells tropical and citrus. The taste is likewise down the middle. Grapefruit, pine, pineapple, a touch of mango perhaps, malt and sunset. So, why do brewers keep putting out new beers in a style that is deluged with options? The apparent situation here. Not tilting the scale in any direction.
