Deadlift Imperial IPA is unlike any Imperial IPA you’ve ever lifted from the beer aisle. It has the strong hop flavor you’d expect from an Imperial IPA but no heaviness that could weigh down your desire to take another sip. The unique flavor stems in part from Nelson Sauvin hops imported from New Zealand. Deadlift’s other component, a simple but fully braced malt backbone muscles up enough malty sweetness and caramel character to spot the incredibly robust hop flavor and aroma.
Deadlift Imperial IPA uses Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand’s best hop growing region: South Island’s Nelson. This region produces some of the most flavorful hops found anywhere. These hops have an intense citrus, fruity, berry-like aroma and flavor that makes them unique. The result will surely be a welcome workout for your taste buds.

A golden amber IPA with a thin off white head. A pleasant pungeant c-hops, pinhey and smooth. In mouth, an oily hoppy mouthfeel, with oily resins, alcohol, classing offering. On tap at Boston Beer Summit, April 16 2011.

Lots of crystal malts with a good dose of caramel. Earthiness and a touch of wood sit below notes of grapefruits. Excellent backbone. Moderate bitter finish. Excellent. Definetely a show of how good WB can be.

Pours a nice golden yellow with a fair-sized head for an IPA. Strong hop aroma. Flavor is a nice blend of citrus, hop/pine bite, and floral bitterness in the finish. Not as smooth or as sweet as some IPAs I’ve tried, but very drinkable, nonetheless.

Growler from Whole Foods Market, Fairfax, VA. Pours a clear pale amber color with a thin head that fades quickly. Aroma of bitter floral, earthy and citrus hops with caramel. The taste is tropical hop notes, a bit of earthiness and a bitter finish. Medium bodied.

Poured up on tap at the Brass Tap in Brandon with a deep clear copper body and multi hued off white head to go along with some spotty lacing. The aroma is full citrus hop oils rushing out of this wide mouthed goblet glass as well as lesser amounts of sugary orange flavored cotton candy. The taste is full up rich sweet citrus hop flavors running from orange wedges to sweetened grapefruit and tangelo juice. It begins to pick up hop bitterness here and there as it warms as well as it progresses to the finish. Tasty stuff.

12 oz bottle into snifter. Pours a hazy cantaloupe-colored hue with a medium-sized head that diminishes pretty quick, leaving a collar of foam and decorative lacework. Aroma is resinous, citrusy, cat-box, floral. Taste is sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium to high, carbonation is medium and texture is oily. Nice and hoppy, this is one of the best IIPAs I’ve had.

12oz bottle from The Grapevine
Appearance: Slightly hazy golden with a small white head and some lacing
Aroma: Fruity, sweet grapes and malts
Taste: Very fruity, pine and bitterness in the finish
I really like this beer. This is the second beer I’ve drank with Nelson Sauvin hops, they deliver a sweet and fruity aroma and taste. The alcohol is very well hidden and the hops are not overbearing, it is a well balanced beer.

I am surprised this is the same beer. This beer was all caramel with some grapefruit. It was very sweet. Footbalmed most of the bottle.
I won’t change my original score but here it is: 6/3/5/2/12 = 2.8
