Keg at Mad Squirrel, Amersham, Bucks. A black coloured pour with a decent beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, caramel, truffle taste and aroma. It’s quite a decent imperial stout but expected a bit more oomph from a 10.5% imperial stout.

Can from Mad Squirrel, High Wycombe. Poured almost black in colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, herbal, sweaty socks. Really unpleasant. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a rich, herbal, dark chocolate, warm boozy, liqourice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Really poor and hugely disappointing. A complete mess and I can’t see how anyone would actually like this. Hugely expensive too. I’m now questioning whether I should be buying Squirrel beers again. Eight Pounds for this! I’d get more pleasure from a macro lager. Squirrel, you need to up your game as this beer isn’t acceptable for the price you are charging.

Keg at MS, HW, 21/12/22. Black with a tan cap that dissipates edgewards. Nose is dark malts, light vegetable notes, baking powder, dried fruits, hint of drains. Taste improves comprising dark chocolate shreds, spice, herb, dark malts, earthy roast, kiss of booze, cocoa powder. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Bit of a miss overall ... nose has really let this one down by a good 0.3 overall.

Tap at mad Squirrel watford. A mahogany brown coloured pour with a loose dark tan head. Aroma is earthy big bitter dark chocolate, burnt cake, spicy cocoa, burnt chocolate. Flavour is composed of harsh bitter dark chocolate, brunt fudge, Salted caramel, earrhy salty roast. Bit harsh overall. Not for me.
