Golden Bock

Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate, bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring.

Super crisp and clear golden coloured body with a dense white head and a trillion bubbles swirling vividly - this is the best a beer of this style or many other styles could possibly look - simply stunning. VERY bready and yeastie smelling with some light fruit and a touch of caster sugar and even more yeast and bread. Medium-bodied; Assertive fruit and malt flavours with a touch of drying fruit, a large dose of apricots and peaches, a touch of metal and a good sweetness at the finish. Aftertaste is potent, but nice - strong for the style and for a lager, but showing surprisingly good character and fruit flavours. Overall, a great beer and very representative of the style. Nice to see a major brewer trying this style and doing something outside of BIG beers in BIG bottles - this is a VERY refreshing step backwards. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased on 15-April-2010 from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia sampled at home in Washington on 15-September-2010.

Bottle. Pours a clear, honey-gold with a medium, white head. Very malty and sugary aroma with some hops in the background. Flavor is quite sweet with pure sugar and some bready notes. Light hops make an appearance. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Finishes sweet and malty with faint bitterness. Really nice beer.

Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Gold pour with a white head. Caramel, apricot and bit of orange marmalade in the aroma. Herbs, some fruit, quite nutty and a bit of peach in the flavour. Light dry, hoppy finish.

Bottle: Pours a pure golden color with lots of bubbles and a finger of creamy white head. Nose is malty with faint florals and screams lager. Bready malts come together with light florals and a dandelion type bitterness. Just a little doughy. Ok, but... just ok.

Bottled:
Pours deep golden with a weak head. Sweet and malty aroma with notes of marzipan. Flavour is too much alcohol and not enough malt. The hoppy finish was a nice surprise but overall this beer is more of an European Strong Lager than a Bock.

Bottled (2010, PBF)
Golden, slightly amber color, small white head. Grassy German type bock aroma but also some American-like hoppyness. Flavor is similar. Quite citrusy, hoppy and malty. Quite German.
