From dkachur @ 12th Richmond Gathering: Dirt and toe jam smell. Black with a thin tan head. Blackberry, licorice, and coffee flavor. Coffee finish.

Bottle courtesy of dkachur at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 09/18/2010. Very dark black body with a small creamy tan head. Big roast and chocolate aroma with some floral hops. Big roast and chocolate flavor. Full body with moderately low carbonation.

Yet another cheer to Tpd975 for sharing this nice gem. pours deep black, mocha head. Aroma is yeasty, chocolate and roasted malts adding a nice touch of coffee. Flavors, thick coffee palate, light boozy mouthfeel, hints of coffee astringency, yeasty and grainy palate with lingering thick chocolate/cocoa finish.

Bottle courtesy Papsoe. Creamy lightbrown fair mostly deminishing head. Powerfull vanilla and cocolate aroma. Really great. Powerfull roasted flavor. Long nice bitter roasted finish. Creamy palate. Great stuff.

Bottle. Nice tan head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Nice and dry.

(Bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen) Pitch black colour with creamy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of black coffee, cocoa, chocolate, citrus and pine needles. Hints of ashes and smoke. Heavily roasted, malty taste with strong black coffe, espresso, dark bitter chocolate, cocoa powder, ashes and citrussy, piney hops. Long finish with a generous, but fairly balanced coffee/cocoa bitterness with a piney touch. Full body, smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol very well hidden behind everything else. Complex beer in brilliant balance. A stunning brew and yet another impressive stout from this brewer. Excellent!

Pretty much pitch. Very dark brown. Rich, intense - chocolate, nuts, and burly sweetness. Very thick malts, almost to the point of soy sauce. It’s well done, but crazy sweet. There’s a hint of acidity late.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a small brown head. Big roast, coffee aroma. Flavor of coffee and roast grains with a bit of licorice and vanilla. Fuller bodied. Roast, coffee, dark chocolate, and a little vanilla lingers.

Bottle 25 cl. Pours completely opaque black with a firm, creamy, light brown head. Fat aroma of burned malt and distinct coffee accents. Solid body, some vanilla, plenty of burned malt and dark molasses. Distinct malt bitterness. 271208

Bottle, thx to Papsoe. It can’t look much more inviting than this one in the glass. It pours a jet black body and on top sits a small but firm, brown head. The aroma is complex as expected, with salty licorice, burnt malts, molasses, mocha coffee and hops. A really big one! The flavor is even better and bitter. Not much more, but a little, with the same salty licorice, burnt malts, molasses and mocha, but the hops are more evident releasing a wonderful bitterness to go with the coffee-like bitterness from the malts. Full-bodied and both dry and sweet. To say it’s an easy drinkable beer would be a lie, but it’s damn tasteful and just lovely. An hour of joy. (081128)
