Small beige head, over practically jet-black beer. Alcohol in old vats; "hints" of malts, "some" of them coloured. Did I mention alcohol? Rum-like, but very fine, velvety nose. As well as an aroma of cilandro leaf. Fresh-tasting, grassy or leafy-herbal flavour, again superposed on a very outspoken coloured and roasted malts, well, tons of them, and fresh coffee or coffeebeans, burnt beyond belief, and yet tasty. Retronasal only the superb hops explode, and pure carbon. Smooth is an eufemism. This is so slick you could open safes with it. Texture is like swallowing crude oil - if that could be as smooth. This is truly impressive. Most important maybe is that the balance is top - something I found amiss in the Beer Geek Breakfast. Abundant thanks to Dirk and Leen for this one!

Bottle, 10.0%. Vinous and very hoppy aroma, grassy and citric. Black colour, seems muddy. Very small dark brown head. Good roasted flavour at first, a little smoke, distinct bitterness. It has a good mouthfeel, probably because of the nice sweetness. Coffee aftertaste.

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Black-colored with a brown head. Aroma is very roasted, quite burnt, with a big espresso character. Slightly sweet flavor at first with some burnt malt, coffee and light alcohol. Finishes bitter. Medium to full-bodied.

Aroma:Pear and apple, then coffee and reasted stuff. fruits disturbing.appearance : pitch black (nice) no head (boooring).Flavor. SO MUCH GOING ON.. dries my mouth out, all those impressions. flavor is REAL good, and well balanced, and .. strong.. aftertaste is more than fantastic. the aftertaste after 50 secs is stronger and more powerfull than what you taste when you drink most other stout?s. awesome. don?t drink this one fast. great brew.(blind tasting in 2010:8,3,8,3,16)

Bottled@RBESG Grand Tasting 2008
Pitch black color, small tan head. Roasted, licoricey, some woody notes in the aroma. Licoricey, coffeish, dry palate. Dark coffee in the aftertaste. Actually quite easy to drink for being 10 %. Good drinkability I would say.

Bottled. Black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, sweet alcohol, mild coffee and some vanilla. Flavour is really coffeeish, chocolaty and has some mild notes of alcohol as well as some slight notes of sour/acidicness. A rather wellbalanced strong beer.
