Our Mastrobator is dark ruby, almost black, with a long-lasting foam and a spicy-chocolate scent. On the tongue it is very full-bodied and yet fresh, with a balanced caramel taste. In the end it leaves a strong, softly rounded, recent impression with a light and fine bitterness. Main fermentation in open fermentation tanks, maturation in horizontal storage tanks.

330ml Bottle - Dark amber/copper with a foamy head. Cherries, marzipan and raisins in the aroma. Malty and fruity taste with dried apricot, caramel, sultanas and some slightly earthy notes. Not bad at all, and actually quite nice, but has the potential to be so much more with a bit of fine tuning.

As Truchtlinger Doppelbock Mastrobator. Clear deep amber colour, small foamy beige head that disappears very quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma roasted malts, caramel, nuts, alcohol. Taste heavy sweet and slightly bitter, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, spicy notes. Malty sweetbitter aftertaste, burnt caramel, warming alcohol, medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, okay but not that special.

Clear murky brown with no head. Aroma is caramel malt dried figs syrup. Not so complex. Taste is sweet caramel with some bitter nuts. Long bitter finish medium body, not so smooth. Nothing totally wrong with this but it is not so great...

After drinking the "Heller Bock" from the same brewery I had high hopes for the "Mastrobator". Pours brown from the bottle with a crown that soon disappears. Lots of visible swimmers; this looks more like soup. The aroma is lightly caramel; I did not pick up the chocolate notes the bottle mentioned. The taste is strongly caramel, with chocolate, and finishes with a gentle sweet plum sourness. Warming, dry, a bit alcoholic on the swill. Pleasant enough, but I had trouble making a judgement about this one. Maybe it’s innately wrong to be drinking bock beers at the height of summer. Decent stuff, but I enjoyed the Heller Bock more.

Smooth malty beginning. Fresh, sticky and quite malty sweet. The body is full but a bit sweetish-caramelized without too much bitterness. Smooth and sweetish aftertaste, sugary caramelly, sticky and full-bodied. Interesting.
