Just Desserts

Keg at BD Clerkenwell, 23/09/22. Pitch black with a well presented lasting khaki head. Nose is chocolate, light roast, brown sugars, toffee fudge, nutty edge. Taste comprises chocolate cheesecake, vanilla, mellow roast, dark malts, pecan pie. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough pastry affair if running a touch overly sweet for my liking.

Keg at Brewdog Paddington, London. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Sweet, chocolate, caramel, pecan, vanilla taste/aroma. A pleasant tasting stout from Brewdog.

Keg at Edinburgh Doghouse. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate ice cream, coffee, pecan. Taste is candied nuts, chocolate, coffee, syrup. A bit too sweet for me though.

Keg at Brewdog Lothian Road. Pours black with a short-lived thin tan head. Aromas of toffee, nuts, chocolate ice cream. Taste is sweet, heavy on the toffee and chocolate. Light nutty finish. Too sweet for me.

On tap at Brewdog Birmingham, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma indeed brings out pecan and toffee, like a liquefied pecan pie. Flavour is medium sweet, bringing out the pecans and toffee upfront, with medium roast, and a dry earthy finish. Not much complexity here really; feels like an ordinary stout that had some syrups added to it. Not great.

Keg, BD AGM. It pours darkest brown to black with a thick tan head. The aroma is sweet toffee, woody, chewy, pecan pie, caramel, vanilla, pie crust and chocolate gateaux. The taste is dry, toasty, lightly charred, bitter - sweet, chocolate cake, toffee, caramel, bitter - sweet, touch of alcohol, bitter- toffee, nutty, light umami, woody, dried fruits, fruit cake, burnt fruit cake and spice with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Nice balance, not too sweet.

Crowler from BD Inverurie. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent tan head. The aroma is sweet and intoxicating, big hit of toffee, caramel, vanilla, pecan, pecan pie, plain glazed donuts, umami, earthy roast, coffee grounds and peanut brittle. The taste is slick, earthy roasted malt, umami, coffee grounds, savoury vibes, bitter - sweet, toffee, caramel, chocolate, mars bar, pecan pie, peanut brittle, toasty, praline, forrero, rocher and dull alcohol kick with a toasty finish. Medium+ body and fine to moderate carbonation. Way less sweet and artificial feeling than I had feared. Decent pecan pie vibes. Novel.

Short lived tan head on a dark brown body. Toffee, nutty & sweet caramel aroma. Medium bodied, tingly on the tongue with smoother back & clean aft. Maple syrup, nutty, caramel, toffee & raisin tastes with nicely hopped up tangy citrus finish. Too sweet.

Keg at Brewdog Canary wharf. An opaque black coloured pour with swirl of dark tan head. Aroma is mega sweet, toffee, creme caramel, Kamp coffee, choco brownie, custard. Cocoa. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, toffee pudding, fudge, bitter cocoa edge, some marshmallow.. Palate is medium sweet, creamy, mellow carbonation.
