Belgian-Style Dark Ale Brewed with Cacao Nibs, Toasted Pecans and Candi Sugar - 11.9% ABV

This beer takes its inspiration from chocolate turtle candies. Brewed with cacao nibs, toasted pecans, Candi sugar and a lot of caramel malts, it's somewhere between a Belgian-style dark ale and a smooth, chocolatey confection.

Bottled. Dark fruits cinnamon/raisin/ raspberry aroma. Poured super dark almost black. Taste was rum-like, and the alcohol was noticeable. Way too strong, almost a barley wine, not my favorite from the Bruery.

Draft pour at Dominion Wine and Beer. Poured a dark cola color without much of a head. Aroma was chocolate, alcohol, caramelized sugar. Dark roast. Booze. Sweet with some light Christmas spices.

Florals and some prune. Not sure the cacao nibs contribute anything positive here, kind of leaves a slightly astringent oaky aroma. A little citrus and leather. Bittersweet finish, but mostly floral sweet. Tap at Rustico.

Poured from the original 750 ml bottling. Aroma is malt forward with lots of caramel, toffee, toasted bread and nut notes. Light pecan and chocolate notes. Medium light alcohol spice with some Belgian phenolics. Medium light oxidized cardboard note. Pours dark brown, but not quite black with a medium large, thick, tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges and disappears. No lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with some caramel, toffee, toasted bread and nut notes. Quite a bit of chocolate with light pecan notes. Moderate bitterness with medium alcohol spice. Moderate Belgian yeast esters and phenolics. Moderate oxidized cardboard and soy sauce notes. Mouthfeel is fairly full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer but definitely well past it's prime. The cocoa notes come through well but the malt has faded a bit and become quite oxidized. Newer 375 ml bottle tasted much better and had all the nice cocoa and pecan notes with great malt character without any of the oxidation. New bottle gets a 3.8

750ml bottle at share, from Jeremy. Ruddy brown pour with a small beige head. Nutty aroma, sweet. Taste brings cola notes, brown sugar and some woody elements.

Bottle from trade. Deep dark brown color. Malty roasty nutty aroma. Alcoholic, malty sweetish flavor with apple syrup, coconut, chocolate, dried red fruit. Nutty aftertaste with coconut. Powerful, yet tasty beer.
