Belgian-Style Saison Ale

Our Spring Saison is light blonde in color with a fresh hoppiness and a wild and rustic Brettanomyces character. Lighter in color and alcohol than our Saison Rue, yet equally complex in its own way. Perfect for warmer weather and Spring celebrations.

Admin Note: Bruery has started to brew this beer again under the Bruery Terreux label.

This brew is a hazy orange-amber color with a medium white soap-sudsy head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, brett and fruit. Light body with a spiced character and flavors of fruit, toasted malt, and hops. A bit of funk underneath. The finish is fruity and crisp with a mild hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle into tulip. Pours a cloudy cantaloupe-colored hue with a giant pillowy white head that recedes like paint dries; leaves nice patchy lacework. Looking down into the glass, it looks like an ice cream float. Aroma is peppery, lemony, Bretty, metal orey (what else that doesn’t end in -y can put in here?). Taste is mildly sweet and has a bitter middle and faintly tangy/bitter finish. Carbonation is medium-high, body is medium-full. Tasty.

750 ml bottle. Poured a orange color with a huge fluffy head. Aromas are malty, spices (particularly pepper), bitter hops. Flavor is creamy malts, pepper spices, touch of citrus. A pretty mellow saison, highly drinkable.

750ml bottle @ Håndverkerstuene. Golden body with a dense white head. Mild fruity aroma with grain, yeast and spices. Mild and almost subdue flavors of grain, fruit, spices and hint of Bret. Medium body and a bit short aftertaste. Unusually, soft and not bad at all.

Cloudy peach-gold color, massive foaming head. Light airy and fluffy palate with alot of soft carbonation. Aroma is wheat and bubblegum, indistinct spice. Flavor similar, mostly wheat. No traces of brett. A little grassy in the finish. Light flavor.

dry, too hoppy, lacking depth. A touch of barnyard. Not bad, but not too exciting.

Slight gushing to huge yellowish, creamy head, leaving lace over fully hazy orange beer. Rather "astringent" nose, vanilla, herbs, spices and indeed hints at Brettanomyces. Fruity and spicy; first an impression of green apples, then a jumble of dry spices and finally other grains. Finish has some sweetness, this time yellow apples, and a hint of liquorice. Pretty carbonated, slight astringency, maybe medium bodied. Certainly far from bad, but IMO, it is exactly the USA image of the quintessential Saison, nearly to the point of the caricatural: the yeasty fruitiness, the other grains, the effervescence, the haziness, the spices, it’s all packed together there. And then (but that’s certainly not something I take into account for marks, mind) - what is that name... language mix?

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 9 Oct 2010) Cloudy golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, spicy nose with notes of citrus, earthy hops and brett. Fruity, spicy taste with citrus, earthy hops, brett and spicy hints of coriander. More than medium body, fairly dry. The generous earthy bitterness and a spicy, funky yeast character makes this very interesting and tasty. Very nice.
